Step 1: Divide yourselves into groups of five

Try to persuade the others is no easy task, you need to discuss with your groupmates on how to do that. First of all, form a group of five with other classmates in you class. Then, fill in the group list and select a group leader among your group members.

When you have form your own group, discuss with your groupmates about the distribution of responsibility. Make sure that the workload is evenly distributed.

Step 2: Select one target family of the Orchestra

You are now going to have a discussion with your groupmates on which family of the Orchestra you are going to introduce. You may make your decision by considering the following factors:

What are the four families of a Western Orchestra?

Which one of the four families are you interested in?

Will other students be interested in this family?

Are you familiar with that family, and what features of the instruments that make them attractive to your group?

Step 3: Gathering information

After deciding which family of the Orchestra to introduce, you may start to gather information from various sources. Here are some suggestions for you:

You may interview the music teachers of your school

You may find books from nearby libraries

You may go to a concert and get a brochure

You may search for information from the Internet (useful links)

Remember that you are going to persuade the students to love the musical instruments you introduce to them. You need to find ways to let them know what beautiful music these musical instruments can produce.

Step 4: Preparing interview questions

Schoolmates' impression of the music may be helpful for you to introduce the music. You may consider interviewing you schoolmates. Discuss the questions that you would like to ask, which are useful for your presentation together with your groupmates. Come up with at least 5 questions for your interviewees to answer.

After finalizing the questions that would be asked, you can make use of the question form for your interviews.

Step 5: Conducting interviews

Now, you have already got everything you need for carrying out your interviews.

Interviewing at least 2 schoolmates and find out their opinions on learning that instrument. (Interview Record Sheet)

Step 6: Organizing information gathered

After you have gathered the information that is need, it's time for you to organize the information that you've got and decide the flow of you presentation. You may also think of questions that your audience would ask

If you found out that there's any information missing, you may try to find back the missing information. If you have any difficulties, you may ask your English Teacher for help.

Step 7: Preparing the presentation

Congratulation! You almost reach the end of the task. You group can now prepare the Fifteen Minutes presentation.

There is no restriction on the format of presentation. You may use any visual aids that you considered as useful for presenting your ideas. For example, PowerPoint, display board, video, slide show, etc. You may consult you English Teacher on what materials are available for your group to use for the presentation.
